Home Organization Tips
This time of year, it can be easy to get a little stir crazy. Get a head start on your spring cleaning by taking inventory and organizing your home. Listed below are some tips on home organization that will help jumpstart your spring cleaning and lead to a more productive and happy home environment.
Tip 1: Organize your stuff into categories: keep and give away
In other words, when you are decluttering take each item out and sort into the following categories: “keep,” “give away,” and “trash.”
Tip 2: Determine storage utilization
Organizational bins, turntables and lazy Susan’s can add up, so by taking stock of what you have and the dimensions of a particular cabinet or drawer first to determine what you need is essential.
Tip 3: For homes with kids, create a rotation system
Keeping kids’ toys organized can be challenging. A common parenting hack is to implement a toy rotation system to limit the number of items the kids have access to. The best part: it will minimize the toys they “dump” on the floor and cleanup will be much easier.
Tip 4: Vertical storage
Whenever possible, vertical storage will help with odds and ends without taking up as much real estate. The closet, for example, is a great place to utilize this rule. Stacking items on shelving is a good way to use vertical space in your closet – until the stacks start falling over. Use vertical shelf dividers to make space to stack things like pants and sweaters. Or use stackable drawers to organize small items in your closet.
Tip 5: Declutter
Uses lidded boxes, folders, magazine racks, or file drawers to organize and store paper clutter. By closing these miscellaneous items up it’ll help give you and your family members peace of mind.
